Everything began with these words spoken by Marthe Robin to Father Guy Claessens on August 17, 1965, during his retreat at Châteauneuf-de-Galaure:
“Yes, the Lord wants a Foyer de Charité in Rwanda. A charity that rises above what divides and separates must be preached there. You see, all these differences of races, languages, ethnic groups, and cultures… All these differences are the visible sign of the infinite richness of Love.”
It was during the opening Mass on February 11, 1968, that the Foyer de Charité de Remera-Ruhondo was founded. We began our mission of evangelization through retreats. The first retreat was held in December 1968, with seven participants.
